Although this semester has proven to be one of my toughest, I did find a great class in the mix! As a social work student, there are several practice classes students are required to take. These classes teach social work students the skills necessary to perform well in the field. This semester, I am taking a family therapy class and I love it! Throughout the semester we perform various role play activities. In the role play, one student acts as the social worker and the other students act as a family. It is a great way to apply the skills we learn during lecture! This class has inspired me to possibly become a family social worker. The professor is amazing, and really applies what we learn to real life situations. Studying social work has really opened up my horizons. It is a life-changing profession, an area in which you can truly make a difference.

Take care and be well!

It has been a busy couple of weeks on campus. This week is Dragon Frost @ MSUM! The week is packed with events for students. Today free ice cream sundaes were being served in the student union! Thursday night is the formal dance in the CMU Ballroom! And on Friday the MSUM Women's and Men's Basketball teams will take on Bemidji State! GO DRAGONS! During half time the snow court coronation will take place. As you can see the week is full of fun events for students to enjoy!

This Sunday is also Valentines Day...which I am very excited about:)

I hope everyone has a great week/weekend!

Take care and be well,

Student activities are always a great way to get involved and meet fellow dragons. However, I was excited to find out that MSUM is taking part Haiti Earthquake effort. This Thursday MSUM will be holding a "Dragons for Haiti Dance Party." Dragons for Haiti is sponsoring this event to raise contributions and awareness of the devastation that occurred in Haiti. All the proceeds from the dance will go to Shelterbox. Shelterbox is an organization providing victims of the disaster with shelter. I think this is a great cause! Imagine all of the support and relief MSUM could provide for the men, women, and children of Haiti.

There is always an area of interest in which students can get involved on campus! Don't be afraid to join in the fun and take that extra step. Clubs and organizations are a great positive influence for everyone!

Take care and be well,

Kristen.
